V-Mail New Year Card

V-mail (short for Victory Mail) was a system used by the United States during the Second World War to deliver correspondence between troops stationed abroad and home addresses. A volume of letters would be photographed so they could be flown overseas in the form of a small microfilm reel, thereby reducing shipping weight. When it reached its destination, the letter was printed back to paper.

This New Year message was mailed from Chaplain Samuel M. Kaufman to Rabbi Nathan Witkin in 1943.
